FP2786 : Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis ( VKC ) and Supratarsal Steroid

Abstract

Study Design-
Retrospective study including 31 eyes of 20 patients with severe VKC
Purpose-
To evaluate use of supratarsal steroid in severe VKC
Method-
Patients included were those with severe VKC associated with giant papilla,gelatinous limbal infiltrates,epitheliopathy and shield ulcer with history of recurrence and resistance to conventional topical antiallergic agents..Treated with supratarsal injection of 20mg triamcinolone.
Result-
70% were between 11 to 20 years of age.95% male and 5% female.50% already on treatment from outside.2% had h/o asthma.100% had giant papillae and epitheliopathy,35% limbitis and 55% shield ulcer.In 00% patients allergy symptoms and signs significantly improved on 15th post injection day.Injection repeated after 1 year in 25% patients
Conclusion-
Satisfactory result and well tolerated therefore safe option in severe challenging cases.While full remission was not achieved but significant improvement found with reduction in acute recurrences.
