FP0278 : Topical Toxin- an injection free option

Abstract

Study Design: Prospective pilot
Purpose: This study describes the short term efficacy and safety profile of topical neuro-peptide which mimics the action of botulinum toxin and results in relaxation of facial muscles.
Methods: Participants were instructed to use the neuropeptide formulation twice a day for 3 months.
Results: 15 participants were included in the study. Maximum reduction was noted in forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. Other effects included improvement in pigmentation and hydration. Transient side effects (mild burning sensation and itching) developed in 5 which resolved in 1 week. No clinical effect was observed in 3 patients with hemifacial/blepharospasm. In patients previously using cosmetic botulinum toxin, the subjective result was less dramatic.
Conclusion: Topical neuropeptides may offer anti-aging benefits with ease of application with minimal side effects. Larger studies are needed to assess their benefit and compare with other formulations.
