Study design:Case report and review of literature
Purpose:To explain an unusual disease course of measles retinopathy
Method:Case report and review of the literature.
Result: A 15-year-old male patient presented with a sudden loss of vision in both eyes.Right eye retina showed tortuous retinal vessels with well-demarcated whitish-yellow deep retinal lesions all over the mid-periphery. Left eye showed pigmentary changes in the macula. Optical coherence tomography showed disorganized retinal layers. Fundus autofluorescence showed a hyperfluorescent area corresponding to a retinal lesion. The laboratory panel showed IGG raised in HSV1, CMV, Rubella, and VZV. Patient started on oral valcyclovir. After 4-5 weeks, retinal lesion resolution was noticed.His serum and CSF anti-measles antibody titer came high.Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain was normal.
Conclusion:Measles retinopathy should be considered in young patients, even if characteristic findings of CNS involvement do not exist.
