Abstract
ARMD is the leading cause of irreversible, progressive loss of central vision in elderly persons, may lead to blindness Various risk factors such as smoking,cardiovascular metabolic factors, obesity, autoimmune disorders, genetic variation and glycemic status propagates the disease.
AIMS—To evaluate the prevalence of hyperglycemia in ARMD.
MATERIAL AND METHOD-Study done for 5yrs from 2015.Follow up done for 3yrs.A group of 500 Diabetic patients,above age of 60yrs, examined AND evaluated Diabetes as an individual risk factor for ARMD. Armd grading analysed in relation to glycemic status and risk factors Hbalc, Renal and lipid profile estimated.B control group were also evaluated
RESULTS-For dry ARMD ,the HR was1.45, among the subjects with diabetes for 4to 5yrs, and more 1.3 ,among patients more than 5yrs with increased body mass. wet ARMD, no variation in diabetic patients of <5yrs duration .Rise in HR 1.5 among patients with diabetes>5yrs and individuals showing renal morbidity.
