Abstract
INTRODUCTION— Central retinal artery occlusion is a form of acute ischemic stroke. It may be associated with Atrial fibrillation, both have important relevance in relation to risk factor, etiology and have Prognostic value
AIMS—To evaluate the incidence of Atrial fibrillation after CRAO.
METHOD—20 PATIENTS of CRAO, 40YRS -75YRS old attended OPD in routine or emergency, included in study.
Same no of normal , but matched individuals taken as control group.
Complete assessment of visual status, with evalution of anterior and posterior segment done.
Cardiac status checkup done by standard ECG or HOLTER. BLOOD PRESSURE, DIABETES, LIPID PR0FILE,evaluated in both groups Status of anticoagulant or anti platelet therapy is important.
Follow up done for 3yrs. RESULTS—Revealed , that after CRAO,the new incidence of atrial fibrillation at 1yr was 50% than control group. Hazard ratio was 1.64 .CRAO shows high incidence of new strokes.CONCLUSION—
Incidence of Atrial fibrillation in CRAO is more.
