Abstract
Purpose
To study the prevalence and visual outcome in pediatric ocular trauma(0-15 years).
MATERIAL AND METHODS :This retrospective observational study conducted between January 2018 to January 2022, included children younger than 15 years in Outpatient and emergency department. Statistical analysis was performed using spss software (2022).
Results: Out of 650 children examined, 86 (13.2%) had ocular trauma. The mean age at presentation was 4.83 ± 2.03 years. Children aged 11-15 years (49.3%) were most commonly affected followed by children from 5 to 10 years (26.1%). Wooden stick injuries were most common (n= 18). 12 patients needed immediate surgical intervention.
Conclusion: Timely referral and management can help to prevent blindness originating from ocular trauma. Follow-ups of children are important for treating complications in the long term.
