FP2622 : Prevalence of narrow angles in people above 40 years

Abstract

The incidence of angle closure glaucoma (ACG) is significantly higher in South east Asia including India than the rest of the world. People with narrow angles if detected early may be followed up and treated thus preventing potential visual morbidity due to ACG. We conducted a study in which all patients above 40 years who presented in RIO for refraction were subjected to slit lamp examination, especially for angle estimation through Van Herick grading (VH) and those who were found to have narrow angles on VH grading were subjected to gonioscopy to confirm the diagnosis. We found a significant number of asymptomatic persons above 40 had narrow or occludable angles and they were subsequently advised regular follow-ups to prevent them from developing ACG
