FP2611 : Spasm of near reflex (SNR) – Case series post COVID pandemic, Diagnosis and Management protocol

Abstract

STUDY DESIGN Prospective interventional study PURPOSE 1.To study demographics of patients with SNR, 2. Propose diagnosis & treatment protocol 3. Define resolution & recurrence of SNR. METHODS-Patients with SNR between July 2020 to June 2023. Treatment included glasses, cycloplegics & vision therapy (VT). Outcome measures included Accommodative parameters, symptoms & esotropia (ET) RESULTS- 30 patients were included. Average age was17.04 yrs (7 to 35). Accommodative spasm was seen in 12(40%), convergence spasm in 5(16.66%), SNR in 13(43.33%). 11 had myopia, 9 hyperopia, 10 were emmetropic.Treatment included glasses in 2(6.66%), office-based-VT in 4(13.33%), home-based-VT in 8 (26.6%) & cycloplegics in 24(80%).t Treatment duration ranged from 1 – 52 weeks. 6 had recurrence. 22 had ET, resolution seen in 6(27.27%), 3(13.63%) were operated. CONCLUSION Thorough assessment & algorithmic approach can help diagnose & treat SNR. Cycloplegics, optical correction, VT & surgery yield good results
