FP2595 : Microbiological & Histopathological study of Chronic dacryocystitis at tertiary care center in India

Abstract

Study Design: Prospective cross-sectional study at tertiary care center
Purpose: to study the possible causes & treatment of chronic dacryocystitis based on microbiological & Histopathological analysis
Methods: In this study 173 patients of chronic dacryocystitis were included & underwent External Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). Swab test of lacrimal content was done for culture-Sensitivity. Histopathological analysis of lacrimal sac mucosa was done to know the inflamatory changes in chronic dacryocystitis.
Results: Of the 173 sample obtained, 104 (60%) yielded a positive culture, 83 (48%) showed single bacterial isolate whle 21(12%) had mixed bacterial isolates. A total of 19 different stains of microorganism were obtained among which majority are gram positive. Staphylococcus were the most frequently found gram positive bacterial which are most sensitive for Gatifloxacin.
Conclusion: microbial culture & antibiotic sensitivity test has to be done in all cases of chronic dacryocystitis.
