FP2517 : “Sharper skills- Evaluation of skill Enhancement through Surgical Simulation Training”

Abstract

Purpose: To determine the effect of early introduction of simulation-based training for manual small incision cataract surgery on the complication rates, and learning curve of resident performed cataract surgery
Study Design: Retrospective cohort study
Methods: All cataract cases done by residents were included. Patient charts reviewed to collect data. Surgeries were performed under supervision of a trained assistant
Results: Study evaluated surgeries performed by 28 residents from November 2022 to October 2023 in tertiary care centre. Surgeries performed after stimulation training was associated with reduced risk of intraoperative, postoperative complications and improved learning curve
Conclusions: The risk of surgical complications in MSICS decreased steadily with surgical experience gained by resident surgeons from Surgical Simulation Training programme
