Abstract
In this retrospective study, 60 eyes of 58 patients with large (>600 microns)macular hole, who underwent PPV with inverted ILM flap and tamponade either with air or long-acting gas.60 eyes were divided into 2 groups (30 each). Group A -air tamponade and Group B SF6 gas tamponade.
The mean age in group A and B was 68.03 and 67.40 years, respectively. The mean basal diameter in group A was 1083.5m and group B was 1193.2 m (p value= 0.23). The follow up was done at 1, 4, 12, 24 weeks after surgery. There was no statistically significant difference between the preoperative (p value= .20) and postoperative (p= 0.25) mean logMAR visual acuity of groups A and B. The preoperative and postoperative logMAR mean VA in group A was 0.72 and 0.5, respectively, but the difference was not statistically significant. However, the difference between preoperative (0.82) and postoperative (0.49) logMAR mean in group B was statistically significant (p=0.0001). The closure rate in both the groups was 100%.
