Abstract

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis is a bilateral recurrent inflammation of conjunctiva, occurring mostly in young children, with the onset of hot weather. A hospital-based cross-sectional observational study was done in a tertiary care hospital in north-east part of India in one year duration. The purpose of this study was to study demographic profile of VKC and to study pattern of clinical presentations of VKC among children in north-eastern India. In this study, 100 children presented to OPD with clinical features suggestive of VKC were evaluated and results were statistically analysed. Results: The mean age of presentation was 12years, with male preponderance. Most common symptom was itching (91%) followed by watering (85%) and most common sign was conjunctival hyperemia (88%). Most common variety was found to be limbal type (72%) and complication was corneal scarring (12%). Apart from these, the visual acuity, pattern of occurrence, distribution of cases etc. were studied thoroughly.
