FP2470 : A rare case of Ocular Brucellosis

Abstract

STUDY DESIGN: Case report
PURPOSE: To describe Ocular Brucellosis presenting as bilateral multifocal choroiditis with serous retinal detachment.
METHODS: A 28 year old male presented with diminution of vision in BE since 1 day. Patient have history of intake of unpasteurized milk . On examination BCVA in BE is CF 1m. Anterior segment was normal. Fundus examination showed BE multiple serous detachment in the posterior pole following which multifocal choroiditis developed. Brucella IgM antibody was elevated(78.03U/ml). Patient was treated with IV methyl prednisolone for 3 days followed by tapering dose of oral prednisolone along with oral doxycycline and rifampin for 6weeks.
RESULTS: Patient was symptomatically and clinically better following treatment with vision 6/9 in both eyes .Multifocal choroiditis and serous detachment resolved.
CONCLUSION: Ocular involvement caused by Brucella remains poorly recognized hence there is high chance of under diagnosis of the disease.
