FP2468 : Opaque F IOL or A tertiary cataract- Case report of a rare but, vision interfering complication

Abstract

Introduction: Opacification of intra ocular lenses(IOL) though rare, have been reported. Here we report a case of sulcus fixated Opaque foldable IOL presenting as pearly white tertiary cataract within 6months of cataract surgery in an adult with no co-morbidities.
Case Report: A 48 yr male presented with gradual painless progressive DOV in RE since 30 months. He had undergone cataract surgery 2years back with no records. His vision did improve however, within 6 months noted DOV associated with whitish discoloration of the eye. He had no co-morbidities.
O/E: Vision was PL with accurate PR-RE and 6/12-LE. Slit-lamp examination showed opaque Foldable IOL in the sulcus intact PC and SICS scar. He was taken for SICS and IOL exchange with rigid PMMA PC IOL. Surgery was uneventful,1st POD had 6/12 VA. Conclusion: Foldable IOL especially hydrophilic IOLs may become discolored and pose like cataract post cataract surgery and IOL exchange is a must to rehabilitate the vision.
