Abstract

Purpose- To study the Etiological and Risk factors causing infectious keratitis in tertiary care hospital
Materials and Methods- A prospective observational hospital based study conducted at the Department of ophthalmology at a tertiary care hospital, corneal ulcer is defined as loss of corneal epithelium with signs of infection in the form of corneal infiltrate with or without hypopyon. 30 patients were included in the study, corneal scraping sample is used for microscopy and culture. presumptive diagnosis of viral keratitis was done based on the clinical features
Results- 22 Patients out of 30(70%) were having trauma as predisposing factor for corneal ulcer, trauma due to vegetable matter and injury by stone particles are seen commonly. Majority of the cases were fungal(16) ,followed by bacterial(9) and viral(5).
