FP2295 : Can ChatGPT be used as a tool to learn the basics of uveitis in ophthalmology?

Abstract

Purpose:
This study aims to evaluate the role of ChatGPT as an educational and learning tool for understanding the basics of uveitis.
Methods:
Interaction between ophthalmologist with questionnaire based on understanding of the basic of uveitis with ChatGPT by OpenAI (version Jan 30). Rubrics analysis by uveitis practitioner of answers generated by ChatGPT.
Results: Rubrics analysis showed the mean score of all parameters to be ‘good’. None of the questions had a poor response. Patient-friendly use of language and content ranked highest amongst all the parameters while scientificalness of the content and analytical thinking were the ones that ranked the lowest (0.66). Explanations and clarity of the answers were ‘good’.
Conclusions:
This study demonstrates the potential of ChatGPT as an effective educational and learning tool for understanding the basics of uveitis. This new educational approach provides an additional tool for healthcare professionals as well as patients.
