Abstract
Coloboma of the iris, choroid, and retina is a rare congenital anomaly which results from failure of closure of embryonic fissure. Ocular coloboma affects 0.5 – 2.2 cases per 10,000 live births. Patients with coloboma develop cataract at a much earlier age as compared to a normal population. Material & method:Prospective case series of 11 eyes of 11patients with congenital coloboma with cataract was conducted between July2021 to June2022 at a tertiary hospital of Jharkand after taking due ethical approval from institutional ethics committee. Results:Mean age was 36.82±7.25(range24-49 years).Microcornea and associated shallow anterior chamber were the major challenges.PCR occurred in 2 patients which was managed on table. Statistically significant ( p<0.05) improvement in visual outcome was noted. Conclusions: Cataract surgery in cases with congenital coloboma is challenging. SICS is a safe and an effective alternative for managing these cases.
