Study Design: A case report
Purpose: To discuss an unusual case of suddenly increasing proptosis in a young primigravida
Methods: A 28 years old primigravida with 30 weeks of gestation who was blind in the affected eye due to retinal detachment following uneventful pseudophakia developed suddenly increasing painful proptosis with orbital cellulitis since two months. MRI- intraocular tumor with intraconal involvement. Following minimal resolution of symptoms with intravenous antibiotics, FNAC was performed that was suggestive of malignant round cell tumor ? Retinoblastoma? medulloepithelioma. Biopsy from a scleral nodule suggested similar features with IHC positive for Ki 67? Uveal melanoma.
Results: She underwent lid sparing orbital exenteration under gynecological supervision with uneventful post op period.
Histopathology of the exenterated specimen will be discussed.
Conclusion: Unusual presentations of orbital tumors can be a diagnostic dilemma to the attending ophthalmologist.
