FP2196 : Early adjuvant AMT vs standard antimicrobial therapy in microbial keratitis: A comparative Study

Abstract

AIM:Comparing effectiveness of early adjuvant Amniotic membrane transplantation [AMT] versus standard antimicrobial therapy [SAT] alone in microbial keratitis.METHODS- Randomised, prospective.interventional study on 30 patients of microbial keratitis, randomly allocated to 2 groups i.e AMT(Group A)and the conservative management (Group B). Clinical improvement was assessed and duration of complete corneal re-epithelisation was recorded
RESULT – Out of the 15 patients in group A, in 14 monolayer of AMT was applied and in 1 multilayer of AMT was applied. The pain score improved from 2.27 ± 0.074 to 1.53 ± 0.743 in Group A and in Group B from 2.20 ±0.775 to1.57 ±0.743 after SAT . The mean epithelisation time was 12.7± 3.2 days for Group A as compared to 17.5± 4.2 days for controls. The mean size of stromal opacity was 1.8 ± 0.909mm in the Group A and 2.3 ± 0.942mm in the Group B. Visual improvement was seen in both groups(p-value 0.027) and 0.05 in A and B group respectively.
