FP2178 : STRABISMUS SURGERY IN ELDERLY: WORTH THE TROUBLE? RESULTS OF AN OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE ANALYSIS

Abstract

Aim: To analyze functional &psychosocial impact of strabismus surgery in elderly. Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients >55 years who underwent strabismus surgery(January 2022-January 23).Objective analysis with complete ophthalmic workup &strabismus evaluation, subjective analysis with questionnaires about the functional & psychosocial changes pre and post strabismus surgery. Objective and subjective scores calculated &compared. Results:Total 16 patients(57-84 years);most were males. Majority had large angle exotropia.93.75% opted surgery for functional difficulties than cosmetic concerns.62.5% with preoperative compromised binocular vision(suppression/ diplopia) attained fusion, 43.75% achieved excellent stereopsis post-surgery. All had good cosmesis. Statistically significant changes noted in objective score(p=0.018)&subjective score(p= 0.001)post surgery. Conclusion: Strabismus surgery in elderly significantly improves the quality of life both functionally and psychosocially
