FP0214 : Clinical Study of Outcome of Nd:Yag Laser Posterior Capsulotomy for Posterior Capsular Opacification

Abstract

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the visual outcomes of posterior capsular opacification (PCO) treated with neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser posterior capsulotomy (PC).
Methods:
A total of 100 patients with PCO were included in this study. All patients underwent Nd:YAG PC, and their visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), and posterior segment were evaluated before and after the procedure.
Results:
Visual acuity improved in 96% of the patients after Nd:YAG PC. The remaining 4% of patients showed no improvement, which was attributed to previous retinal problems and a thick posterior capsule. Transient IOP elevation above 21 mmHg was noted in 2 patients within 24 hours after the procedure.
