Abstract

PURPOSE: To report a case of unilateral retinoblastoma in a 2year old child.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 2 year old was brought to ophthalmology opd with c/o whitish discoloration in left eye since 1 month.There were no associated complaints.No h/o Consanguinity.O/e the child had leucocoria in left eye .Visual acuity of Left eye was no PL. Lens was clear.Fundus examination revealed a white mass which was seen filling almost the entire vitreous cavity behind the lens.B scan showed hyperechoic area with echogenic foci involving 3/4th of vitreous cavity in left eye with retinal detachment.
RESULT: MRI confirmed the diagnosis. Left eye was staged as Group E retinoblastoma. Right eye examination was normal.Left eye required enucleation followed by chemotherapy
CONCLUSION: Retinoblastoma is rare malignant disease of childhood which progresses rapidly and has high mortality rate. Identifying disease at an early stage helps in halting rapid progression
