FP2058 : Assessment of Subjective Visual Experiences during Vitreo-Retinal Surgery in Uveitic Eyes

Abstract

Purpose: To assess the nature of visual experiences during vitreo-retinal surgery in uveitic eyes. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional observational study was conducted among uveitis patients undergoing vitreo-retinal surgery. Pre-operative anxiety and intra-operative visual experience were assessed using a validated questionnaire. Statistical analysis was done using STATA version 17.0, P value < 0.05 considered significant. Results: All 13 patients could perceive altered visual sensations during vitreo-retinal surgery. Visualization of colors (61.53%) and flashes of light (61.53%) were the most common visual sensations. Preoperative anxiety was less likely to influence fear. Conclusion: Patients with uveitis were able to perceive a variety of visual sensations during vitreo-retinal surgery which resulted in a frightening experience that could trigger a systemic complication. Pre-operative counseling could improve patient experience.
