Abstract
Due to increased aging population, neurodegenerative diseases have become more prevalent and developing imaging biomarkers for these diseases may provide early diagnosis and predict the clinical course.This is a prospective non randomized observational study.Cognitive performance was assessed by the neurologists and MMSE scoring was done.61 PD patients(76.25%) and 19 Alzheimer’s patient(23.75%)were included.Swept source OCT was done.RNFL and GCC thickness parameters of patients were compared with those of age match controls.RNFL was found to be 120.58 ± 31.10 μm,133.68 ± 30.21 μm,62.19 ± 11.10 μm,68.04 ± 17.76 μm in superior,inferior,temporal,nasal quadrant respectively.GCC was found to be 58.11 ± 8.12 μm,55.49 ± 12.08 μm,58.21 ± 12.79 μm,60.32 ± 14.03 μm in superior,inferior,temporal,nasal quadrant respectively.Statistically significant reduction was found in cases compared to healthy controls.OCT may serve as an early biomarker in patients of neurodegenerative diseases.
