Abstract
Prospective randomized interventional study for 18 months
Sample size: 14 cases- 7 in each arm
Included Patients above 18 years, with non infectious, non necrotizing scleritis ¬ receiving any prior immunosuppressive therapy
Excluded Patients with uncontrolled blood pressure and blood sugar
17 eyes of 16 patients were studied. At 3 months follow up,resolution of scleritis- 66.67% in Deflazacort(DFZ) group 62.5% in Prednisone(PDN) group. Two eyes in both the groups had reactivation and one was refractory to treatment. The mean time for resolution of disease in DFZ was 30 days & for PDN 24 ± 8.2 days(p =0.089) Weight gain in DFZ group was0.625 ± 2.4 kg while PDN group was 1.0 ± 3.4 kg(p=0.81). At 3 months, mean random blood glucose in DFZ group was 102.7 ± 3.9 and in PDN group was 152.0 ± 51.92(p =0.02). Blood Pressure: Difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in each visit was not significant. None of the parameters comparing the tolerability of drug were significant
