Abstract
Aim-to estimate the incidence of strabismus in children previously diagnosed with pseudo-strabismus.Method-retrospective study of all pt who were previously diagnosed with pseudo-strabismus at <3 yrs age & were later diagnosed with strabismus who presented in Eye OPD from Oct 2022-sep 2023 were included.Pts diagnosed with strabismus before the diagnosis of pseudo-strabismus or simultaneously with it were excluded.Age,refractive error & presence of amblyopia were noted.Results-strabismus was diagnosed in 8 pt(9.4%) out of 85 pt previously diagnosed with pseudo-strabismus at mean age of 1.7+/-1.1 yrs.It was diagnosed more than a year late.Amblyopia was diagnosed more frequently(32.5%) in pseudo-strabismus pt. 21.8% of pseudo-strabismus pt underwent strabismus surgery.Myopia was the commonest refractive error, occuring in 58% pt.Conclusion-young children diagnosed with pseudo-strabismus have a higher risk of developing strabismus & amblyopia.They should be regularly followed up.
