FP1695 : A stitch in time saves nine- A Save from OSSN

Abstract

Purpose – To emphasize upon early detection and timely intervention
Method -A 63 year old male with foreign body sensation on blinking and visible mass in right eye since 4months.On history, mass is progressive with intermittent episodes of redness.Vision unaffected 6/12p.On slit lamp examination,a unifocal pearly white mass at temporal limbus from 7‘O clock to 10’O clock position surrounded with feeder vessels.Suspicion of OSSN is made. 0.2% Mitomycin C eye drops 3 times a day started for a week in right eye after which conjunctival mass excision with conjunctival autograft done under local anesthesia and tissue sent for histopathological analysis.
Result –Limbal anatomy maintained and smoothness of ocular surface achieved.
Conclusion – OSSN is an invasive ocular surface tumor which if not removed on time can slowly spread throughout the limbus, involve cornea and the patient ends up losing vision. Hence early detection and timely intervention are the key to success.
