Abstract
Study design : retrospective study Purpose. To study the outcomes of a toric IOL vs nontoric IOL after regular phacoemulsification in eyes with preoperative low astigmatism of ≤ 1 D.METHODOLOGY:pseudophakic eyes with preoperative astigmatism ≤ 1.0 D implanted either with Toric IOL , or with non toric IOL . the outcome analyses by comparing spherical equivalent outcomes in both the groups was done. The data were referred to the postoperative follow-up visit, 1 week and 1month after surgery. Results:A total of 3128 eyes were included: 634 eyes implanted with toric IOL and 2495 eyes with non toric IOL . Spherical equivalent < 0.5 D is seen in 95.27 % in eyes with toric iol and 91.33% with non toric IOL.Conclusion: Our study revealed that patients who received toric IOLs achieved excellent visual outcomes, with remarkable reductions in astigmatism and improvements in visual acuity. It is noteworthy that the results indicate a superiority of toric IOL implantation over non-toric IOL.
