Study Design-Prospective Longitudinal Study
Purpose-To evaluate visual field defects (VFD) in migraine with and without aura within 7 days and after 30 days of the attack
Methods-Visual fields of 30 patients of migraine with aura (Group 1) and 30 patients of migraine without aura (Group 2) were assessed by Humphrey’s automated perimeter (SITA-FAST 24-2 and full field 120-2 protocol) within 7 days and 30 days after the attack to chart the emergence and disappearance of the scotoma associated with the attack.
Results-VFD was observed in 22 subjects of Group 1 and 16 subjects of Group 2 within 7 days of the attack. In 4 cases in Group 2, there was emergence of scotoma in the period within 7-30 days
Conclusion-Transient VFD were detected in both groups within 7 days of attack, more common in the Group 1 than Group 2 with 24-2 protocol but almost equally present on full field 120-2 evaluation. The pattern of the scotoma showed a shift when evaluated after 30 days.
