FP1642 : Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) and its role in management of Keratoconus (KC) and ocular allergy.

Abstract

Study design : Prospective study
Purpose : Evaluating Keratoconus (KC) outcomes after systemic & topical allergy control by Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT)
Methods : 308 KC patients (616 eyes) were evaluated for ocular & systemic allergy. Eye rubbing & serum IgE was noted. Topical treatment was started based on severity. Patients with severe/chronic ocular allergy, systemic allergy and IgE>500 were referred to immunologist. SLIT was started if patients had marked response on allergen testing.
Results : Age range was 11-38 years. Male/female:193/115, 110 were paediatric age. Average IgE was 776 (maximum >3000). 228 patients were referred to immunologist. Commonest allergens were dust mites & pollen. 56 were started on SLIT. Eye rubbing, itching reduced in 94%. Follow up period was 3 years. 52 were stable, 196 eyes underwent CXL post allergy control.
Conclusion : Systemic & ocular allergy control and role of systemic immunotherapy will help in long term KC stability.
