FP1600 : Use of Digital Otoscope as a nasal endoscopic tool and pedagogy instrument

Abstract

Purpose: Investigate the utility of a digital otoscope for nasal endoscopy and as a pedagogy tool for residents and fellows
Methods: A digital otoscope (MS450-NTE, Teslong Inc, USA) comprising of a digital screen device and a connectible camera probe was used. The device had a 4.5-inch LCD screen, with photo and video capturing ability in 720p resolution while the attachable camera probe had a 3.9 mm camera with 6 LED lights for illumination
Results: Inspection of nasal cavities was done pre- and post-operatively in patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction, who underwent dacryocystorhinostomy. Images (1920×1080 pixels) and videos (1280×720 pixels) were captured. The device could also be used for syringing-probing procedure and for removal of nasal intubation tubes. The device was helpful in teaching anatomy and concepts to residents and fellows
Conclusions: Digital otoscope with camera probe is a handy, utilitarian tool for nasal endoscopy, for pedagogy and for minor procedures
