FP1447 : Suprachoroidal PRP injections- An innovative approach in management of Retinitis Pigmentosa

Abstract

Study Design:
Prospective interventional case control study
Purpose:
To assess the efficacy of autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections in suprachoroidal space and sub-tenon space in cases of RP
Methods:
78 eyes of 39 patients of retinitis pigmentosa having visual acuity ranging from reading of ETDRS (early treatment diabetic retinopathy study) chart from one meter onwards to patients who were not able to read ETDRS chart but whose visual acuity ranged from finger count close to face to less than 1 meter were included in the study.
Results:
Intervention eyes showed statistically significant improvement in visual acuity and multi-focal electroretinography (mfERG). Improvement was noted in amplitude density latency and in ring ratio of multifocal ERG. However, no improvement was observed in control group.
Conclusions:
PRP may be recognized as a modality to improve vision and stop further deterioration especially in cases where functional vision is preserved.
