Abstract
Purpose: To compare safety and efficacy of sub conjunctival (sc) depot triamcinolone acetonide (TA) with topical steroids and NSAIDs after uneventful phacoemulsification surgery. Methods: In this prospective, multicentric, randomized controlled trial, Group A was given sc TA 6 mg , and Group B received topical prednisolone acetate and nepafenac. Results: Group A had 200 and Group B had 202 subjects. Both groups were comparable in terms of age (p=.1), gender (p=.19), laterality (p=.5) and preoperative BCVA (p=.3). BCVA was -0.1 in both groups at 45 (p=.27) and 90 (p=.3) days post op. Mean IOP at 90 days was 13.98 And 13.39 (p=.1) in Groups A and B respectively. Mild rebound inflammation was present in 4 eyes in Group A and 6 eyes in Group B. Mean macular thickness was 189 and 191 µ in Groups A and B respectively (p=.6) Conclusion: A single dose of subconjunctival TA injection was found to be safe and effective and non-inferior to topical steroids and NSAIDs after phacoemulsification.
