Abstract
Purpose: To assess the clinical presentation,radiological findings,management & outcome of orbital dermoids
Methodology: Retrospective,interventional,consecutive case series
Results: 153 cases constituted 5% of all orbital tumours with mean age 15y(range 9d to 63y). Orbital mass in 117(84%,n=139), proptosis in 21(15%,n=139)(axial7,abaxial14) at mean age of onset of 10y(birth to 61y). Palpable mass in 127(91%), located anteriorly 91(66%), posteriorly 9(6%), with fixity in 63(49%),with restricted motility in 40(26%),external angular 42(27%),internal angular 27(18%)& dumbbell dermoid in 31(20%). Bony tethering 28(15%), fossa formation 65(42%)& bony excavation seen in 44(28%). Excision with histopathological confirmation in 140(92%) & sclerotherapy in 7(4%) led to residual lesion in 4 (3%), treated with excision/scrlerotherapy (2) with no recurrence at a median follow-up of 197m(1–1472m). Conclusion: Rare dermoids, if dealt strategically lead to no recurrence if excellent cosmetic outcome
