FP0134 : Human Amniotic Membrane Graft For Complicated Retinal Surgeries

Abstract

SYNOPSIS: Human amniotic membrane(HAM) has the ability to integrate in retinal tissue without producing any immunological reaction. Its potential to repair retinal tissues has been utilized to treat several retinal pathologies. In our institution we utilized HAM tissue in the treatment of an optic disc pit with recurrent maculopathy and two cases of large macular hole with retinal detachment. Included patients underwent thorough ophthalmological examination along with spectral domain optical coherence tomography scan before and after surgery during follow up. All 3 cases exhibited excellent anatomical response with postoperative type 1 closure in macular holes and resolution of subretinal fluid in optic disc pit. We present the functional and anatomic outcomes during their postoperative follow up period along with a brief description of the surgical method utilized to tackle such challenging retinal pathologies using HAM graft.
