FP1264 : Spectrum of presentation of paediatric cataract and post-operative visual outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose: To study the clinical spectrum of presentation and postoperative outcomes of paediatric cataracts in a tertiary hospital in Vijayapura. Materials/Methods: We enrolled 62 eyes of 31 patients with paediatric cataracts. We noted parameters like demographic profile, type of cataract, associated nystagmus and strabismus, systemic comorbidities, or associated syndrome, intraoperative or postoperative complications and postoperative visual outcomes. Results: The mean age was 8.15 ± 4.54 years. Among them, 50 eyes had lamellar cataracts, making it the most common type. 48 eyes had nystagmus. Two had congenital rubella syndrome and one patient had Down syndrome. No intraoperative complications were noted. 11 patients had post operative uveitis 3 patient developed increased IOP. 91.02% of patients had a postoperative improvement of vision at 1 month. Conclusion: Lamellar cataract is the most common type of paediatric cataract and postoperative uveitis is well documented complication
