FP0124 : Comparison of cycloplegic and non-cycloplegic refraction in school aged children

Abstract

Study Design-Cross-sectional Observational study
Purpose- To evaluate the difference between cycloplegic and non-cycloplegic refraction in school-aged children.
Methods- The study was performed in Department of Ophthalmology, AIIMS Raipur. The right eye of 110 children in the age group of 5-15 years were evaluated from December 2022 to August 2023. Cycloplegia was induced by 1% cyclopentolate eyedrops. Autorefraction was performed in non-cycloplegic and cycloplegic conditions.
Results-Without cycloplegia 62.7% and 31.8% of the participants had Spherical Equivalent (SE) Impression as Myope and Hypermetrope respectively, whereas with cycloplegia 40.9% and 57.3% of the participants had SE Impression as Myope and Hypermetrope respectively.
Conclusion-Myopia is overestimated and Hyperopia underestimated in non-cycloplegic refraction as compared to cycloplegic refraction.
