Abstract

Sebaceous cell carcinoma of eyelid is also called as sebaceous gland adenocarcinoma or meibomian gland carcinoma. The tumour is more common in upper eyelid because of presence of large number of sebaceous glands . It has an incidence of 1.5-5% with female preponderance ,occurring in elderly age group . We report a rare case of sebaceous cell carcinoma in a 75year old female who came to the ophthalmology opd with a gradually progressive mass on the left lower eyelid since 1 year. On examination a 10*10mm lobulated solid mass is noted on left lower eyelid with localised madarosis and vascularity on the surface . An excisional biopsy with histopathological examination revealed tissue lined by stratified squamous epithelium , subepithelium shows lobules of cells separated by fibrous septa .cells are large with foamy cytoplasm , hyperchromatic nuclei and some of the cells show atypical mitosis with features suggestive of sebaceous carcinoma of left lower eyelid .
