Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Prospective obervational study. PURPOSE1. To evaluate binocular vision (BSV) parameters among ophthalmic surgeons 2. correlate surgical performance with symptom score using Modified CISS quetsionnaire (MCISS- Q) METHODS: 31 ophthalmic residents filled a MCISS- Q evaluating symptoms related to performance of surgeries and underwent ophthalmic evaluation including vision, refraction, anterior, posterior segment & detailed orthoptic assessment RESULTS: 52 % had normal BSV parameters, 35 % abnormal BSV parameters & were symptomatic, 13 % had mildly deranged accommodative parameters only with no symptoms. All except 1 surgeon with NSBVA had score > 11. Subjects with a score<10 on MCISS- Q had no orthoptic issues.CONCLUSION There is a high prevalence of NSBVA among ophthalmic surgeons. Screening for NSBVAs among surgeons is important as it infuences surgical performance & ocular comfort during prolonged surgeries.MCISS- Q is sensitive tool to screen for NSBVAs among surgeons.
