Abstract

BACKGROUND – Rhinosporidiosis being endemic chronic granulomatous infection of mucous membranes caused by Rhinosporidium seeberi .Having multiple ocular presentation ,authors intend to increase awareness through above case series among people taking bath in pond shared by animals. Macerating enzymes secreted locally in ocular tissue produces Pu-De orange appearance of the skin,thinning of sclera, staphylomas & destruction of lacrimal bone.
PURPOSE It’s a prospective study of 8 distinctive cases of ocular Rhino from eastern part of Chhattisgarh ranging from 8-30 years undergoing total excision with 2 mm lesion free margin &10% base betadine-cautery.Radical DCT of rhino-sac was done & all cases followed-upto 3 weeks.
DISCUSSION Mycological & histopathological examination was done for confirmation.Ocular conjunctival rhinosporidiosis presents as granuloma, papilloma. Similarly sac presents as boggy eroding mass with partial obstruction in NLD, associating with nasopharynx involvement .
