Abstract
Study design:Prospective observational study
Purpose:To study incidence, risk factors and clinical course of zone 1 ROP Method:All neonates having zone 1 ROP at presentation according to ICROP 3 classification and subdivided in type 1 and type 2 ROP. risk factors and clinical course were studied Result:Total 526 neonates were screened, 9.50% were diagnosed with zone 1 ROP. 63 eyes with type 2 ROP on initial presentation out of which 30 eyes converted in type 1 ROP. Type 1 was statistically significantly associated with GA <28 weeks and BW<1500 gm. nicu hospitalisation, o2 supplementation and MV history was statistically significant for type 1 ROP. Conclusion:extreme preterm and extreme low birth weight is a significant risk factor for zone 1 ROP. Near 50% of type 2 ROP converted to type 1 on followup so timely and strict follow up is necessary.
