STUDY DESIGN:Case report of 58-year-old female with complicated cataract surgery
Purpose:To present a complicated surgery,its consequences
Methods: She presented with decreased vision,pain in left eye 10 days after cataract surgery. Vision in LE was light perception with inaccurate projection of rays, IOP of 7 mm Hg. Corneal edema, an enlarged temporal corneal incision, a shallow anterior chamber with flare and exudates, sluggishly reacting pupil present but no hypopyon noted. B-scan showed multiple low to moderate echoes suggestive of vitreous exudates. On PPV, nucleus piece was entangled in the exudates. Management of nucleus drop was done along with treatment as per endophthalmitis.
Results: Culture inconclusive. Prolonged surgery led to corneal involvement for which bandage contact lens was used after consulting cornea surgeon.
Conclusion: Complicated cases require multiple sub-speciality intervention
