Abstract
Medical records of patients presented to our tertiary care centre with cicatrizing autoimmune conjunctivitis between August 2019 to July 2023 were studied. Records were analysed for demography, presenting visual acuity, clinical examination with histopathological correlation, cicatrizing conjunctivitis score, management and complications.
Results:Seventy eight eyes of 39 patients (Males 19:Females 20) with mean age of 50.84 ±21.46 years. Mean duration of symptoms 53±55.62 months and presenting visual acuity (LogMAR) was 1.13 ± 0.93 and 1.02 ± 0.98 in right and left eye respectively. 46 eyes were in early Foster stage (1-2) and 32 eyes were in advanced Foster stage(3-4). Systemic involvement was seen in 22 patients. Histopathological correlation of the clinical diagnosis was possible in 53.84%(21/39) of patients. Histopathology showed spectrum of autoimmune diseases such as mucous membrane pemphigoid, bullous pemphigoid, lichen planus, lichen atrophicus and erythema nodosum.
