Abstract
STUDY DESIGN- CASE REPORT
PURPOSE- REPORTING AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF DIFFUSE UNILATERAL SUBACUTE NEURORETINITIS (DUSN).
METHODS- Herein we report a case of 19 year old male with the complaint of diminution of vision in the right eye with a large preretinal haemorrhage over the macula. Patient underwent pars plana vitrectomy and a large subretinal worm around the area of the haemorrhage was noticed intraoperatively. Patient was treated on oral corticosteroids in tapering doses postoperatively which led to good visual recovery.
RESULTS: Patient gained the visual acuity to 20/30 from finger counting close to face after pars plana vitrectomy. The subretinal worm faded on subsequent visits after giving tapering doses of corticosteroids.
CONCLUSION- Early diagnosis and treatment of DUSN leads to better visual outcome. DUSN should be kept as a differential diagnosis in young patients with preretinal haemorrhage especially from endemic areas.
