FP1169 : Advance, rotate and back it out: A novel technique for barbed fishhook removal from the eye.

Abstract

Fishing is practiced in various parts of the country as a recreational activity. Ocular trauma during fishing is very common and can present in ophthalmology clinics. Fishhooks are of different types and varieties; some are barbed and some are barbless. Various techniques have been reported in the literature but the exact removal technique depends on the type of fishhook and part of the eye involved in trauma. We discuss a modified technique of fishhook removal from penetrating corneal injury in an early teenage male which we manage by surgical removal of fishhook under general anesthesia. To our knowledge from literature search such technique has not been discussed earlier.
