Abstract

STUDY DESIGN: retrospective interventional study
PURPOSE:to assess outcomes of lacrimal gland injections of botulinum toxin A for epiphora secondary to lacrimal drainage disorders & functional epiphora
METHOD:in this study 27 eyes of 21 patient(13male & 8 female)were identified.mean age was 42 years.Functional epiphora group had 7patient(8eyes)subcategorized into Hypersecretion(5)post 7th nerve palsy(2)Nonfunctional epiphora group had 14patient(19eyes)subcategorized into Proximal canalicular block(9)Common canalicular block(3)Post traumatic NLD obstruction(2)
RESULT:at 1 month median Munk score improved to 1&2 in both the groups after receiving median dose of 4 units of BoNTA.Median reduction in Munk score was 70% in functional versus 50% in non functional group.No difference in terms of complications were noted
CONCLUSION:reduction of epiphora after lacrimal gland injection of botulinum toxin is seen in both the groups. Symptomatic improvement was more in functional epiphora group.
