Abstract
Study design: Observational comparative study
Purpose: To evaluate choroid and lens thickness among various subtypes of angle closure disease
Methods: Choroid and lens thickness were compared among eyes with subtypes of angle closure disease and healthy controls.
Results: 124 eyes were enrolled including 93 angle closure subtype eyes and 31 healthy eyes. The mean choroid thickness was significantly higher in angle closure subtypes than healthy controls (247.1µm ± 40.9,318.8µm ± 24.8, 383.8µm ± 53.0,173.6µm ± 28.1 in primary angle closure suspect, primary angle closure, primary angle closure glaucoma, and healthy controls, respectively (P<0.001). The mean lens thickness was more in angle closure disease when compared to the control group (P<0.01).
Conclusion: Increased choroid thickness might be another anatomic characteristic of angle closure eyes. This observation may support the hypothesis that choroidal expansion is a contributing factor to the development of angle closure disease.
