FP1068 : A Decade of Experience in Posterior Polymorphous Corneal Dystrophy (PPMD) Surgical Management

Abstract

Purpose: To explore the clinical presentation and surgical outcomes in patients with PPMD
Methods:The study involved 86 patients diagnosed with PPMD, undergoing PK (8 eyes) & DSAEK (10 eyes) for significant corneal clouding between 2014 and 2021.Results: Among the 86 patients, 26 were under 16 years old, and 60 were over 16 years old, with 60% being male. Median age for interventions was 51 years. Median BCVA in LogMAR improved from 1.69 ± 0.22 pre-surgery to 0.82 ± 0.19 post-surgery (p=0.001). Significant improvement in BCVA was observed in PK-treated eyes (2.47 ± 0.36 vs. 0.74 ± 0.32, p<0.0001), but not in DSAEK-treated eyes (p=0.28). Regrafts occurred in 2 eyes (11.1%), and additional DSAEK was performed in 2 eyes (11.1%). Glaucoma was reported in 3 eyes (16.7%). Cataract surgeries were conducted pre- and post-intervention in 3 eyes (16.7%) and 5 eyes (27.8%), respectively. During a median follow-up of 4.7 years 94.4% of patients had a transparent graft.
