FP1824 : Pupil size changes post Pan Retinal Photocoagulation (PRP)

Abstract

Aim: To compare the pupil size changes pre and post PRP
Methods: It’s a prospective study where subjects diagnosed with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and underwent PRP laser were included. Patients with optic neuropathy, retinal vascular occlusive diseases were excluded. Pupil sizes were acquired in photopic, scotopic and mesopic lighting conditions using SIRIUS topographer at pre and post PRP at 1 week,1 month.
Results:
34 eyes of 19 PDR patients were underwent PRP laser. The scotopic pupil sizes were found to be increased at post PRP 1 week and 1 month follow up as compared to baseline (P=0.58). The mesopic pupil size was found to be increased at 1 week however reduced to baseline value at 1 month follow up (p=0.57). The photopic pupil size also showed similar trend to mesopic pupil sizes (p=0.07).
Conclusion: We noted short term changes in pupil size post PRP laser this could be attributed to damage to short cilliary nerves supplying the sphincter pupillae.
