FP1805 : Macular hole in a case of anterior uveitis:an insignifcant coincidence or an underreported occurence

Abstract

Studies have reported the occurrence of VMI pathology in anterior uveitis (AU) to be less than 5%, though its exact mechanism being unclear. A 52 year female came with the with the chief complaints of (OD) redness, photophobia and pain since a day. Past history of similar episode (OD), which resolved without any treatment, but complains of DOV since then. On examination: VA (OD) – 6/60 (OS)- 6/9. (OD) AC- cells 3+; flare 2+, lens- IMSC. Fundus examination shows macular hole, confirmed on OCT-operculated Lamellar macular hole (LMH). Examination of (OS) was unremarkable. Awaiting the reports of systemic evaluation, she was treated for AU with steroids and homatropine eyedrops. By the 3rd day, her inflammation had reduced, with no improvement of vision. Considering the inflammatory origin of LMH, we debated whether to perform surgery at this point. The postulated mechanism is thought to be vitreoretinal traction, macular edema, epiretinal membrane, multifactorial or is it just a coincidence
